My name is Robert. I am 58.
They told my father his cholesterol looked good. He took the statin. He stuck the printout on the fridge.
Then the phone rang at 6am.
The file said cholesterol. That is not what killed him. A pipe in his chest had been packing shut for years while they cheered a number.
I was already on the same pill. Same breakfast routine. Same walk. Same bloodwork every six months. Same smile when LDL moved a little.
My wife buried him under that smile. I was not going to put her through it again.
So I sat up that night and read. Not blogs. The papers. The comments under the videos. The line doctors say off the record and will not put in a chart.
Don’t count on your cardiologist to know this. Mine gave me the same speech they gave him.
